4 Simple Ways You Can Get Your Kitchen Beautifully Decorated for the Holidays

It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays everywhere you go, from the stores around town to your neighbor’s outdoor light display. Even though the days are getting shorter, you can make your surroundings feel merry and bright with festive decorations around your home, especially in your kitchen.

If you looking for some easy ways to add holiday cheer to what’s probably the busiest room in your home, here are 4 tips to help you beautifully decorate your kitchen this holiday season:

 

1. Make Your Kitchen Island More Festive

If you have a kitchen island, it serves as a major focal point in your kitchen layout, so it is one of the first spots you will want to be sure to decorate.

One beautiful decorative addition to your kitchen island can be a festive centerpiece. While there are a variety of holiday centerpieces you could purchase, you might even want to try making one on your own. For example, a gingerbread house can be a centerpiece that eventually turns into dessert. Or, maybe you have some candles on hand and leftover ribbons from wrapping that can become a centerpiece.

If you have seating around your kitchen island, this is also an opportunity for decoration. A simple giant bow tied to the backrest of tall chairs or the legs of stools can instantly add a cheerful holiday touch.

 

2. Create Cozy Countertops 

While ideally you do want to keep your countertops uncluttered, a few decorations or accessories on your counters can always add life and vibrancy to your kitchen.

While you might showcase a plant or bowl of fruit at any time of year, during the holidays you can make choices reflective of the season. For example, you might want to feature some evergreen boughs in a glass jar.  Or, choose fruits like oranges or cranberries that might be incorporated into your holiday baking.

 

3. Have Fun with Holiday Arts & Crafts

Do you have kids at home who enjoy arts and crafts projects? Although a refrigerator is often a place to showcase your children’s art projects, this time of year you might want to feature holiday-themed projects in other areas of your kitchen.  For example, you can string together paper snowflakes and hang them across your kitchen windows.

Adult craft projects can also add a warm cozy touch to your kitchen. For example, if you or a beloved friend or family member loves to knit, crochet or sew, now is the time to bring out handmade holiday-themed kitchen towels or placemats.

 

4. Add Some Holiday Spirit to Your Kitchen Cabinetry 

Cabinets serve a practical need in kitchens, especially during the holidays when you’ll want to keep kitchen items behind closed doors so you can highlight and showcase any holiday décor you want on display. Though they are often overlooked in the decoration process, you can also decorate the cabinets themselves.

For example, you can hang wreaths on your cabinet doors, especially your wall cabinets in order draw eyes upward. You can also use fishing line or other pieces of sturdy string to hang some ornaments off your cabinet hardware.  If you have open shelves or glass door cabinets, you can take advantage of the visibility they provide by placing select holiday decorations there.
