How to Use Pinterest to Inspire and Plan Your Kitchen Remodel

RTA Wood Cabinets

It’s a delightful and inspiring time when you’re dreaming of remodeling your kitchen. There are so many possibilities, and it’s fun to revel in all the potential ways you can transform your kitchen to make it both more beautiful and functional.

While you’re dreaming and planning, there are several social media sites you can use to find and gather new ideas. One of the most popular and useful for kitchen design is Pinterest. The thing is, there are almost too many good ideas to be found on Pinterest – how can you keep the idea gathering process organized and fun without getting overwhelmed?

Our team here at RTA Wood Cabinets has put together this guide of 4 tips to help you use Pinterest productively as you’re planning your kitchen remodel:

1. Pinterest 101

Let’s start with the basics.

Are you signed up with an account for Pinterest? Pinterest is free to use, and signing up is simple. Just go to www.pinterest.com. You may also want to download the app to your smartphone. Once you’re logged in, it’s time to start browsing and exploring. Here are two key terms you’ll want to know for success on Pinterest:

  • Board – a Pinterest “Board” is where you’ll save, or “pin,” your favorite images. You can create your own titles for boards to help you organize your favorite images in ways that make the most sense for you. For example, you might name your boards: “Kitchen Cabinet Ideas” and “Kitchen Floor Ideas.” Or, if you’re trying to decide between Shaker-style cabinets vs. modern cabinet designs, you might create different boards for each as you gather your ideas.
  • Save – you’ll see the “Save” button appear as you hover your cursor or finger over the image you want to save. Just select the board where you want the image to go, and click the red “save” button. Your boards should now be filling up with your favorite images!

2. Organize Your Kitchen Remodeling Vision

It’s often a good idea to plan in advance the different boards you’ll want to create on Pinterest.

Though you might feel tempted to put all your kitchen ideas on one big board called “Kitchen Remodel,” you run the risk of a board that’s disorganized, overcrowded, and overwhelming, which will just make your planning more difficult.

Instead, it’s better to create different boards for each different component you want to remodel. You might even want to subdivide if there are several possible “themes” for each component so there can be different boards to capture different design directions.

While you’re on Pinterest, it might also be useful to start creating boards for what you’ll do after your kitchen remodel, for example, boards for DIY projects.

Here are some suggestions for Pinterest boards you may find helpful:

  • Kitchen Cabinets
  • Hardware
  • Kitchen Islands
  • Backsplash
  • Kitchen Flooring
  • Kitchen Appliances
  • Kitchen DIY
  • Pantry Storage

As you’re working on your new kitchen dreams, don’t forget: this stage is supposed to be fun! So, take a break if necessary, re-energize, and come back to your boards with fresh eyes. If in doubt, simplify.
